Chemistry labs have a reputation for being technically demanding: titrations requiring precision to the tenth of a milliliter, pH measurements that change in fractions of a second, electrochemistry experiments that demand specialized instrumentation. The good news is that all that complexity has already been resolved in the Vernier Go Direct ecosystem. With the GDP-CHMA-SV package and free Graphical Analysis software, any institution can set up an advanced, AP-ready chemistry lab with no additional infrastructure required.
Vernier has spent more than four decades developing instrumentation for science education, and the GDP-CHMA-SV is their definitive answer for advanced chemistry: nine Go Direct sensors covering everything from spectrophotometry to precision electrolysis, all wireless, all compatible with tablets, Chromebooks and computers.
Graphical Analysis: the award-winning software included at no cost
The entire Go Direct ecosystem works with Graphical Analysis, the free Vernier app available for iOS, Android, Chromebook, Mac and Windows. The software automatically recognizes the connected sensor — via Bluetooth or USB — and configures graph axes according to the measurement type.
Graphical Analysis Pro, the premium version, adds advanced statistical analysis, curve fitting, and numerical differentiation and integration directly on graphs. It has won the three most important awards in the educational technology industry: Best of Show at ISTE 2020 (Tech & Learning), Platinum Award STEM/STEAM App 2020 (THE Journal), and Best Tool for Remote & Blended Learning 2021.
Graphical Analysis (free version) is available to all Vernier Go Direct sensor users at no additional cost. Download it from the App Store, Google Play, Chrome Web Store, or at vernier.com.
The GDP-CHMA-SV package: 9 sensors for AP and university chemistry
The Advanced Chemistry Go Direct® Package (GDP-CHMA-SV) brings together nine sensors selected to cover the major areas of advanced chemistry: acid-base, electrochemistry, spectrophotometry, gases, calorimetry and conductivity.
Advanced Chemistry Go Direct® Package (GDP-CHMA-SV) – 9 Go Direct sensors for advanced and AP chemistry
All sensors connect via Bluetooth or USB directly to the teacher's or student's device. No additional interface or external data acquisition hardware is needed.
The package is complemented by the book Advanced Chemistry with Vernier, which includes 35 experiments designed for AP Chemistry and first-year university.
What experiments can you do with the GDP-CHMA-SV?
The 9 sensors in the GDP-CHMA-SV package, combined with Advanced Chemistry with Vernier and Graphical Analysis, open a wide range of experiments covering the key topics of advanced chemistry:
Acid-Base and Titrations
- Titration curves: pH vs. volume with synchronized GDX-PH + GDX-DC
- Equivalence point and pKa determination for polyprotic acids
- Conductometric titrations: endpoint detection by conductivity
- Buffer solutions: preparation and buffering capacity measured in real time
- Salt hydrolysis and pH of weak electrolyte solutions
Electrochemistry
- Galvanic cells: EMF measurement and Nernst equation verification with GDX-VOLT
- Metal activity series: standard reduction potentials with GDX-ORP
- Quantitative electrolysis and Faraday's law with constant-current GDX-CCS
- Electrochemical corrosion and cathodic protection
Spectrophotometry and Quantitative Analysis
- Beer-Lambert law: absorbance vs. concentration with GDX-SVISPL
- UV-Visible absorption spectra and determination of λ maximum
- Reaction kinetics monitored by real-time absorbance changes
- Quantitative concentration determination via calibration curve
Gases and Thermodynamics
- Boyle's law: pressure-volume relationship at constant temperature with GDX-GP
- Gay-Lussac's and Charles's laws: pressure and volume as a function of temperature
- Solution calorimetry: enthalpy of neutralization and dissolution with GDX-TMP
- Chemical kinetics: effect of temperature and concentration on reaction rate
The GDP-CHMA-SV covers the full experimental curriculum of AP Chemistry and a first university course. The included SpectroVis® Plus is a professional-grade instrument that many institutions purchase separately.
From the box to the experiment: that simple
Setting up any Go Direct sensor always follows the same four-step process:
- Download Graphical Analysis for free on your device (App Store, Google Play, Chromebook or computer).
- Turn on the Go Direct sensor. The LED will flash, indicating it is ready to connect.
- Select the sensor in the app. Graphical Analysis detects it automatically via Bluetooth or USB and sets up graph axes for the measurement type.
- Press Collect and data starts graphing in real time. The experiment is already underway.
When combining multiple sensors — such as GDX-PH and GDX-DC for a titration, or GDX-VOLT and GDX-ORP for a galvanic cell experiment — Graphical Analysis automatically synchronizes them on a single screen.
Training included: the added value of buying from Districalc
Acquiring quality instrumentation is the first step; what transforms that investment into real learning is teacher training. That is why every Vernier sensor purchase through Districalc includes training in the use of the equipment and Graphical Analysis software.
Districalc is the official Vernier distributor for Latin America and the Caribbean, with a presence in more than 20 countries since 1981. For more than four decades we have supported educational institutions in implementing STEM lab technology.
"In advanced chemistry, the difference between a lab that works and one that doesn't lies in the details: calibration, protocol, graph interpretation. We support the teacher through every one of those steps."— Camilo Wartenberg, Director of Districalc
The included training covers practical use of the sensors, Graphical Analysis configuration for chemistry experiments, running experiments from Advanced Chemistry with Vernier, and pedagogical strategies for integrating digital instrumentation into the curriculum.
Districalc offers ongoing technical and pedagogical support to all institutions that purchase Vernier technology. Over 40 years of experience distributing educational technology in Latin America and the Caribbean back every sale.
The AP chemistry lab that arrives ready to use
The GDP-CHMA-SV package solves the three major challenges of an advanced chemistry lab in one go: complete instrumentation, award-winning free analysis software, and 35 structured experiments ready to implement.
The SpectroVis® Plus included in the package deserves special mention: it is a UV-Visible spectrophotometer that in most university labs is purchased as a standalone instrument at significantly higher cost.
